answer the following
1)Toward winter a cold stranger entered Greenwich Village. No one could see him. He walked around touching one person here and another there with his icy fingers. He was a bad sickness.
2)Johnsy was suffering from pneumonia. She was not responding to medicines, because she had no will to live. When she finally made up her mind to get better, she recovered from her illness.
3)Behrman is a perpetual drinker and an unsuccessful painter. Though he is generally rude, he feels highly protective of Sue and Johnsy who live in the studio above him. Although the smells of gin all the time, he appears to be a good-natured man who always speaks of his coming masterpiece.
4)The last leaf is what helps Johnsy recover from her illness. This last leaf which she thought she would die with actually became the reason that she was able to recover and live. The Last Leaf is about a young artist woman who caught up on a disease called pneumonia
5) Having called a doctor to their studio, Sue learns from him that Johnsy has only a slim chance of living because she has lost her will to live. He tells Sue that she must get Johnsy interested in something that will inspire her to get well. Now, Sue is a true friend who dearly loves Johnsy.
6)Behrman believed it was his special duty to do everything possible to help Sue and Johnsy as He woke up all night and painted his masterpiece ( the last leaf ), even though it was raining heavily outside as thought it to be his responsibility to help his young neighbour who no longer wanted to leave, which eventually made him suffer from pneumonia and die
C. Read these sentences from the story and answer the questions that follow,
1.
answer:a) honey
b) she was counting leafs
c) she thought that her life is going like those leaves. she said that "when the last leaf fall I will die too." that's why it was important for her as she was comparing her life with those leafs d) her friend told her to stop thinking such type of negative things... she told her that believe in yourself, not on that silly leaf...
2)1.sue said it to jhonsy
2. because he was ill for two days of pneumonia and died
3. speaker told about his death reason and said someone saw him on the morning lying like that 4. the person is sad while saying this news
D. Think and answer.
1)Behrman paints an Ivy leaf on a wall of a neighbouring house. This painting proves a masterpiece. Johnsy is herself an artist. Even she can't know that it is not a real leaf. That is why Sue calls it a Masterpiece. It is because of this Masterpiece that Johnsy regains her will to live. Thus Behrman's painting proves a Masterpiece in that it saves the life of a girl who has lost all hopes of recovery.
2)I like the character of Behrman as he was not a professional painter but then also he helped Johnsy to recover from Pneumonia by saving her life and painting the artificial leaf on the window which give her a positive impact on her. He gave his own life as he was also suffering from Pneumonia and he also said that he can do anything to help Sue and Johnsy.
