The civilians, in the majority Sikhs, had assembled to participate in the annual Baisakhi celebrations, a religious and cultural festival for Punjabi people. Coming from outside the city, they may have been unaware of the imposition of martial law

(ii) Electronic devices must be switched off when not in use.

(iii) It is necessary to use more power saving devices.

(iv) Reduce consumption of non-renewable sources of energy.

(v) If possible solar power should be used to generate electricity.

(vi) Recycling of goods and commodities can also help to conserve energy.

i. Peninsular rocks contain most of the reserves of coal, metallic minerals, mica and many other non-metallic minerals.

ii. Centre legislate on ‘residuary’ subjects

iii. High Courts and the Supreme Court sorts out the dispute between centre and state.
