Answers
Answer: Son doesn't want to talk with his father.
Explanation:
The poem ‘Father to Son’ was written by Elizabeth Jennings. The poem speaks of the grief of a father who does not have a good relationship with his son. Her son is now grown up and is very busy. The father is saddened by the generation gap between them and the feeling of separation. He expresses his feelings that he does not know much about him and that there is no sign of understanding. He wants their relationship to be the same as when his son was a child. He is trying his best to resolve this issue but to no avail. Therefore, they drift away.
The poem speaks of a father’s grief in which he laments the negative relationship with his now grown son. He says that although they have been living together for years, he does not understand her. He knew nothing about her and even though he tried to build a relationship with her like that of a child, it was in vain.
He went on to say that although his son is like him, he does not know what he likes. He admits the gap of communication and misunderstanding between them and they talk like strangers. Her son is in a different area that he can't reach because of the widening gap. Silence among them. She is ready to forgive her prodigal son. He wants to welcome her back into the house, whom he has always known. She does not want her son to leave the world. She longs to love him.
Finally the son speaks and tells you what he hears. He's in a stage where he doesn't understand himself. You feel grief over the growing distance between them and you become angry over grief and sadness. They put a blank hand over each other but not one of them holds it. They want to forgive each other but have not been able to find a solution to this problem.
