First Battle of Tarain: In 1191 CE, Muhammad Ghori tried to defeat Prithviraj Chauhan at Tarain, 80 miles away from Delhi. Ghori failed to defeat Prithviraj's army, but he soon began to regroup his forces for another attack.

Second Battle of Tarain: Ghori again attacked Prithviraj in 1192 CE at Tarain. This time he succeeded with the help of Jaichand, the ruler of Kannauj. Prithviraj was defeated and captured and Ghori then went to defeat Raja Jaichand in the Battle of Chandwar in 1194 CE.
