Q5-

A piece of wood is cut into 3 parts, namely x, y and z.

They are cut in the ratio 2:3:5.

We don't need to assign variable names to the parts. Instead we will call

x as 2a

y as 3a

z as 5a

So from the question we derive that

y + 10 = z

3a + 10 = 5a  (Values assigned)

10 = 5a - 3a

10 = 2a

a = $\frac{10}{2}$ = 5

Now we know the value of a is 5. Then,

x = 2a = 2*5 = 10

y = 3a = 3*5 = 15

z = 5a = 5*5 = 25

Now the stick is x + y +z, which is 5 + 15 + 25 = 45cm
