The compund X is ethanol(CH₃CH₂OH) and compound Y is ethene(CH₂=CH₂).      when ethanol is heated with excess concentrated sulphuric acid in 443k , it gets dehydrated to form ethene which is unsaturated hydrocarbon. the Gas Z is hydrogen gas. when ethanol reacts with sodium metal, sodium ethoxide is formed and hydrogen gas is released. The sulphuric acid(H₂SO₄) acts as a dehydrating agent. the reactions are CH₃CH₂OH→CH₂=CH₂ + H₂O                      and 2CH₃CH₂OH + 2Na → 2CH₃CH₂O⁻Na⁺ + H₂↑.         hope it helps you!
