On adding sodium sulphate to barium chloride, white precipitate is immediately formed which is insoluble in dil.HCl. 1. Sodium sulphate chemically reacts with barium chloride in the form of their aqueous solution to form a white precipitate of barium sulphate.

When sodium sulphate reacts with barium chloride, a double displacement reaction takes place and the new products formed are barium sulphate and sodium chloride. The white precipitate is of barium sulphate. The reaction is as follows:

BaCl2 (aq) + Na2SO4 (aq) → BaSO4 (s) + 2NaCl (aq)

White precipitate is NaCl2 or BaSO4
