small area is in contact with the floor . As a result, such shoes can do a great deal of damage.
A knife has a sharp edge with a very small area, allowing to cut easily.

Snowshoes have a large area to reduce the pressure, preventing the wearer from sinking into the snow. Similarly the feet of camel have large area that decreases the pressure, preventing them from sinking into the sand.
