As per the given question ,

Let the initial velocity of the particle be u and the acceleration of the particle be a

distance covered by the car = 12 m

time taken = 3 sec

As per the 3 equation of motion ,

s 1 = u t 1+ a t1²/2

12 = 3 u + a 9 /2

12 = 3 u + 4.5 a ...(1)

total distance covered by the body

= S 1 + S 2

= 12 m + 30 m

= 42 m

total time taken

= t 1 + t 2

= 3 + 3

= 6sec

S = u t + 1/2 a t ²

42 = 6u + a 36 / 2

42 = 6 u + 18 a . ..(2)

Multiplying equation (1) by 2

24 = 6 u + 9 a ....(3)

Subtracting eq (3) from (2)

(42-24) = (6u - 6u )+(18 a - 9 a )

18 = 9 a

a = 18 / 9

a = 2 m / s ²
