lets son's present age be x,

and mother's present age be y.

given, Mother is 25 years older than son,

i.e,y = 25+x,----->eqn(1)

also given that,

after 8 years,ratio of son's age to mother's age will be 4/9.

that means,

(x+8)/(y+8) = 4/9,

from eqn (1),

y =25+x,

=>(x+8) / (25+x+8) = 4/9,

=> (x+8) / (x+33) = 4/9,

=> 9x + 72 = 4x + 132,

=> 5x = 60,

=> x = 12.

therefore, son's present age is 12 years.
