To Find :-

(i) Range

(ii) Mean

(iii) On how many days was the rainfall less than the mean rainfall

Solution :-

Table :-

\left[\begin{array}{ccc}\bf Day&&\bf Rainfall(mm)\\\sf Mon&&0.0\\\sf Tue&&12.2 \\ \sf Wed&&2.1\\\sf Thu&&0.0\\\sf Fri&& 20.5 \\\sf Sat&&5.5\\\sf Sun &&1.0\end{array}\right]

Range = Highest value - Lowest value

Here,

Highest value = 20.5

Lowest value = 0.0

Range = 20.5 - 0.0

Range = 20.5

Mean = Sum of observation/Total observation

Mean = 0.0 + 12.2 + 2.1 + 0.0 + 20.5 + 5.5 + 1.0/7

Mean = 41.3/7

Mean = 5.9

Since, mean is 5.9

Mon, Wed, Thu, Sat, Sun are the 5 days in which the rainfall was less than the mean rainfall

Answer:

i) Maximum rainfall = 20.5

Minimum rainfall = 0.0

range = maximum rainfall - minimum rainfall

20.5 - 0.0

20.5

ii) Mean rainfall = Total rainfall / Number of days

total rainfall = 0.0+12.2+2.1+0.0+20.5+5.5+1.0

= 12.2+2.1+20.5+5.5+1.0

122/10+ 21/10+205/10+55/10+10/10

(122+21+205+55+10)/10

413/10

41.3

thus,

Mean rainfall = total rainfall / number of days

41.3/7

41.3×1/7

41.3/7 × 1/10

59 × 1/10

59/10

= 5.9

the mean rainfall is 5.9

iii) Mean is 5.9

Here 0.0,2.1,0.0,5.5,1.0 are less than 5.9

On 5 days rainfall was less than mean rainfall
