  1. Cartilage is another type of connective tissue which has widely spaced cells.
  2. The solid matrix of this tissue is composed of proteins and sugars.
  3. Cartilage smoothens bone surfaces at joints and is also present in the nose, ear, trachea and larynx.
  4. Like Cartilage of ear can be folded.

Cartilage:

  • Outer most covering is called Perichondrium

  • Matrix is solid, pliable and can be compressed

  • Cartiledge clproducing cells are called Chondroblast

  • This tissue has active cells

  • Chondrocytes are Cartiledge destroying cells

  • Matrix of Cartiledge is called chondrin.

  • Matrix of Cartiledge provides rigidity and elasticity

  • Blood supply is absent in matrix but is present in Perichondrium

  • Cells of this tissue are enclosed in small cavities.

  • These cavities are known as Lacuna
