Find the Area of an Isosceles Triangle ABC In which BC = 8 cm and AB = AC = 5 cm. If CE is perpendicular on AB . Find CE .

So let ABC be an isoceles triangle with base BC = 8 cm, and AB =AC= 5 cm .

Draw altitude AD.

So, BD = CD = 4 cm .

Now, ADB is a right triangle, by pythogoras theoram:

AD = 3 cm .

Thus, area of ABC = 1/2× BC × AD = 1/2× 8×3 = 12cm^2.
