In this figure, CDEF is a square, EF = 4.8cm, BE = 8.4cm, AB = BC and AE = 12.7 cm. Find the area of the entire figure.

All sides of a square are equal so EF = FC and all the other sides
Area of square = side x side
= 4.8 x 4.8
= 23.04 (cm)2
To find area of triangle BFC , BE - FE = BF
= 8.4 - 4.8 = 3.6
Area of triangle = 1/2 x base x height
= 1/2 x 4.8 x 3.6
= 2.4 x 3.6
= 8.64 (cm)2
Finding area of triangle ABE
Area of triangle = 1/2 x base x height
= 1/2 x 12.7 x 8.4
= 12.7 x 2.4
= 30.48(cm)2
*ADDING THE AREA OF ALL FIGURES
23.04 + 8.64 + 30.48
= 272.16 (cm)2 is the area of the entire figure.
