Answer:

yes because some properties of hydgen matches with alkali metals

such both hydrogen and alkali metals have 1 electron in their valence shell

both hydrogen and alkali metals form unipositve ion by donating one electron

hydrogen and alkali metals are reducing agent

both hydrogen and alkali metals have valency 1

Hydrogen has some properties similar to alkali metals like Na , K etc.. Like alkali metals hydrogen also has 1 electron in the valence shell. It also forms unipositive cation(H+ ions) like alkali metals. It also forms compounds with non metals like O , Cl ,S etc. similar to alkali metals(like NaCl ,HCl ; Na2O, H2O) etc. Therefore it has been placed with alkali metals.

However its position is still disputed because it also has some properties similar to halogens(F , Cl , I etc)

Hope it helps....
