On squarin' both sides --

(x - 1 / x)² = (-5)²

=> x² + 1 / x² = 27

=> (x + 1 / x)² - 2 = 27

=> (x + 1 / x)² = 29

=> (x + 1 / x) = ±√29

Now,

x² - 1 / x² = (x + 1 / x) (x - 1 / x)

→ CASE 1 :--

When, x + 1 / x = √29

=> (√29)(-5)

=> -5√29

→ CASE 2 :--

When, x + 1 / x = - √29

=> (-√29)(-5)

=> 5√29

Hence, The required answer iz :-
