Sin i = sin 45 = 1/root 2

sin r = sin 30 = 1/2

According to Snell's law,

R.I. of medium 1 x sin i = R.I. of medium 2 x sin r

=>sin i / sin r = R.I. of medium 2 / R.I. of medium 1

=> 1/root 2 x 2 = R.I. of medium 2 / R.I. of medium 1

=>R.I. of medium 2 / R.I. of medium 1 = root 2.

If the second medium is water,

R.I. of medium 1 = R.I. of water/root 2 = 4/3root 2

Then according to snell's law,

R.I. of medium 1 x sin 45 = R.I. of water x sin r

=>4/3root 2 x 1/root 2 = 4/3 x sin r

=> sin r = 1/2

=> r = 30 degrees.

From the above calculations it is observed that angle of refraction doesn't change.
