When you pass the current through the solenoid, the magnetic field is produced inside the solenoid as the moving electrons produces magnetic field.

Yes, we can use bar magnet to know the north and south pole of the solenoid.

By bringing the North pole of the bar magnet close to one end of the solenoid, if the bar magnet gets attracted to the solenoid then that end of the solenoid is South pole and the other end is North pole but if the bar magnet gets repelled then that end is North pole and the other end of the solenoid is south pole.
