To Find:

find the area of the carpet and also the uncovered portion?

$Portion \: uncovered \: = 50 cm = 0.5 m$

$Length \: of \: the \: carpet = 18 m - (0.5 m + 0.5 m) = 17 m$

$Breadth = 12.5 m - (0.5 m + 0.5 m) = 11.5 m$

$Area \: of \: the \: carpet = 17*11.5$

$= 195.5 sq m$

$= 225 sq m$

Now area of the uncovered portion = area of the hall - area of the carpet

$= 225 - 195.5$

$Area \: of \: the \: uncovered \: portion = 29.5 sqm$
