thyroid gland secretes the hormone thyroxin.
thyroxin regulates protein, carbohydrate, and fat metabolism to provide the ideal balance of the three for growth.
iodine is required by the thyroid gland to make thyroxin. thus iodides salt is advised to be consumed.
deficiency of iodine results in the disease goitre whos symptoms include a swollen neck.
