1) on a rooftop near o'connell bridge a republican sniper live watching. beside him lay his rifle and over his shoulders was slung a pair of field glasses. his face was the face of a student in an ascetic but his eyes had the cold gleam of fanatic. they were Deep and thoughtful eyes of a man who is used to looking at death.

2) The Sniper is not given a name because he wants a mystery and to degrade the enemy. The author did not name the character so that the story can apply to anyone involved in a war, easily substituted part . a sniper mear object or target to be shot at .

3) snipers life is threatened because there was an enemy who was hiding to shoot him at the opposite roof. the old woman was pointing toward the Republican Sniper where he was hiding.

4) he takes the risk of lighting a cigarette inspite he knew that it would be a hint to the enemy.

5) The Sniper raised his rifle and fired. the head of the gunner fell heavily on the turret wall. the woman darted towards the side Street. The Sniper fired again the women whirled round and fell with a shriek in gutter.

6) taking office cab coma he placed it over the muscle of his rifle full stop then he pushed the rifle slowly upward over the parapet until the cap was visible from the opposite side of the street. almost immediately there was a report and the bullet Pierce the centre of the cap.
