Let the man's present age be x.

Let the son's present age by y.

ATQ-

x = y^2 - (1)

Man's age 1 year ago = (x - 1)

Son's age 1 year ago =(y - 1)

ATQ-

x - 1 = 8( y - 1)

x - 1 = 8y - 8

x = 8y - 7 - (2)

using (1) and (2)

x = y ^2

x= 8y - 7

8y - 7 = y^2

y^2 - 8y + 7 = 0

y^2 - 7y - y +7 =0

y(y - 7) -1(y - 7)

(y - 1) (y - 7)

y = 7

So-

Son's present age (y) = 7 years

Man's present age (y^2) = 49 years

Sorry if there is any error cuz this is my first answer kuddos ☺️
