(i) Central Highlands: It is the part of
the Peninsular Plateau lying to the
north of River Narmada covering a
major area of the Malwa Plateau.
The Vindhyan range is bounded
by the Satpura range to the south
and Aravalis on the northwest.
Its westward extension gradually
merges into the desert of Rajasthan.
The Central Highlands are drained
by the Chambal, the Sind, the Betwa
and the Ken rivers, which flow
from southwest to northeast. The
Central Highlands are broader in
the west and become narrow
eastwards. Its eastward extensions
are the Bundelkhand, the Baghel-
khand and the Chotanagpur plateau
drained by the Damodar river.​

the malwa plateau lies between the Aravalli hills and the Vindhyachal hills. it has Black soil which is very good for growing cotton and oilseeds. wheat and jowar are also grown here. Panna in Madhya Pradesh has diamond mines. the chota Nagpur plateau is rich in minerals like coal,iron,mica and manganese. the north eastern part of the region has the largest coal deposits in the country. important coal mines are present in giridh Bihar, jharia and Bokaro Jharkhand,and Raniganj west Bengal. many parts of chota Nagpur plateau are covered with forests. they give us different kinds of woods and other forest products.
