sin Φ = P/H = a-b / a+b
so,
P= a-b. H = a+b
using Pythagoras theorem

H² = B² + P²
(a+b)² = B² + (a-b)²
a² + b² + 2ab = B² + a² + b² - 2ab
2ab + 2ab = B²
4ab. = B²
so
B =
$\sqrt{4ab}$
= 2√ ab
so,
cos Φ = B/H
= 2√ab /a+b
