Answer: 30 days

Step by step explanation:

Let 'x' be the number of days where employee is working and 'y' be the number of days where employee is idle.

Total days: 60

x + y = 60 [eq.1]

Worker gets Rs.20 for each working day and Rs. 10 is deducted.

Total amount: Rs. 300

20x - 10y = 300

=> 2x - y = 30 [eq.2]

Adding [eq.1] and [eq.2],

x + y = 60

+ 2x - y = 30

______________

3x = 90

x = 30

Putting value of x in [eq.1]

x + y = 60

30 + y = 60

y = 30

Thus, as we had to find the number of days when the worker was idle, Answer is 30 days.

Let the number of days for which the worker worked be = x

Let the number of days for which the worker was idle be = y

x + y = 60

=> x = 60 - y __(1)

Money recieved by worker for his work (per day) = Rs. 20

Money lost by worker for not working (per day) = Rs. 10

20x + (-10)y = 300 ___(2)

Solve (2) further:

=> 20x - 10y = 300

Put (1):

=> 20 (60 - y) - 10y = 300

=> 1200 - 20y - 10y = 300

=> 30y = 900

=> y = 30

x = 60 - y = 60 - 30

x = 30

Thus, the worker was idle for 30 days.
