Why does Gerard say that the Intruder's entry is highly melodramatic?

Answer: Gerard says that the intruder’s entry is highly melodramatic because the latter had entered the former’s home silently, revolver in hand, wearing an overcoat and soft hat. The intruder was looking like Gerard, except for the clothes. The intruder was an absconding criminal and had planned to kill Gerard and then later on impersonate as him.

Why did Gerrard send for the sergeant?

Gerrard sent for the sergeant to arrest the intruder who had tried to kill Gerrard and later on adopt his identity and live freely. The intruder was a criminal who had made a villainous plan to kill Gerrard. However, Gerrard was very clever; he handled the intruder intelligently, and showing his presence of mind foiled his nefarious plan.

What have you to gain.why does gerrard ask the intruder this question ?

Gerard asked this question because he also wanted to know the intruder's intention, purpose, and plan. Many questions rose in Gerard's mind. He had never seen that intruder ever. Besides, he was biding his time by keeping him busy in talking.

As the intruder answered this question, Gerard got the clarity about his intention and plan.

Who gives away more information about himself, Gerrard or the Intruder?

Quite ironically, it is the intruder who gives more information about himself to Gerard; he has come with a plan to kill Gerard and take up his identity. However, he does not have enough information about his target. Gerard takes advantage of it and traps him in his clever plan. The moment the intruder becomes off guard, he pushes him in the cupboard in his room and calls up the police.
