CuSO4. 1/2 H2O ( calcium sulphate semi hydrate ) is plaster of paris ...

Plaster of Paris is prepared by heating gypsum (CaSO4. 2H2O) to a temperature of 373 K in a kiln. Actually the chemical name of gypsum is calcium sulphate dihydrate which means that the molecule of gypsum is in fact molecule of calcium sulphate which contains two molecules of water of crystallization.

POP is prepared by heating gypsum at 373 K. 1) Use personal protective gear (gloves, dust mask, goggles, shoes) while preparing POP. 2) Don't use hot water for mixing POP as it may explode. 3) Body parts shouldn't be casted with POP.
