Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

1) the angle APB is 90° since AB is a diameter.

2) PB = AB sin 40° = 12 sin 40°

~ 12 × 0.643 = 7.716 cm

grisgris0: can you elaborate on how abp is 90 degrees, lets say i want angle abp, whats that?

Answer:

1) ∠APB = 90°

This is because angle in a semi circle is a right angle .

2) Given :

∠APB = 90° ,

∠PAB = 40° .

We know that :

sin Ф = (side opposite to Ф) / (longest side)

⇒ sin(∠PAB) = PB/12

⇒ sin 40 = PB/12

⇒ PB = 12 sin 40

⇒ PB = 12 × 0.6428 approx.

⇒ PB = 7.7136 approx .

The value of PB ≈ 7.7136 cm.

grisgris0: so in the diagram abp is 50 degrees?
