states. They were a wide group of people who tooth and nail opposed the ratification of the US Constitution.


They were less well-organized than the Federalists but they also had an good group of leaders that were quite active in state politics of those days.


Prominent amongst them included the likes of Melancton Smith of New York and James Winthrop of Massachusetts.


More-soever, they had a huge support from ordinary Americans of those times.
