This is because antibiotics are derived from bacteria and they will only work against a bacterial disease. But common cold is a viral disease hence an antibiotic won't do any good against a virus.

common cold is an viral infection.so,these antibiotics act or effect only bacterial infection because it has fixed biochemical pathways .thus,this is the reason why antibiotics dies not act on common cold
