antibiotics can also be called as antibacterials.they are antimicrobials.they are used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria.they are also used for the prevention of such infections.

antibiotic is drug used to treat bacterial infection. it is not effective against virus.
eg. penicillin ,streptomycin etc..
