Primary infections have characteristic morphologies and courses, are initiated by single organisms, and usually occur in normal skin. They are most frequently caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and coryneform bacteria. Impetigo, folliculitis, boils, and erythrasma are common examples.
