Antibodies are produced by specialized white blood cells called B lymphocytes (or B cells). When an antigen binds to the B-cell surface, it stimulates the B cell to divide and mature into a group of identical cells called a clone.

The antibodies are Y shaped proteins. The antibodies have unique binding site for antigens. These antibodies attack the antigen (pathogen) and destroy it. These are then engulfed and digested by the other type of immune cells called macrophages. This way immune system works against the antigen
