New Delhi: With gyms and public health clubs across the country shutting down in a bid to curtail the spread of COVID-19 caused by the novel coronavirus, incorporating a basic yoga exercise into your daily routine could be an excellent way to stay fit both physically and mentally during the lockdown. Yoga is one of the best ways to de-stress and unwind. Yoga, perhaps, is proven to be one of the most effective and time-tested natural immunity boosters that we can adopt for a healthier lifestyle.

Yoga is an art that strengthens the body and relaxes the mind at the same time. Here are a few simple yoga poses that can help you put up a strong resistance to help fight infections, including the COVID-19, while helping you stay fit and healthy.

Yoga to improve immunity, reduce stress

Yoga postures allow to stimulate organs and pace up their function. In particular, the digestive system, as well as the respiratory system, are two key areas of the body you can focus through the practice of yoga to help improve immunity, said Sohan Singh, an expert in couple yoga and the founder of Sohan Yoga International. Answer:

In a recent address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to follow immunity-boosting guidelines issued by the Ayush Ministry to supplement the fight against COVID-19

Practice Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for at least 30 minutes every day.

Add spices like Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhaniya (Coriander) and Lahsun (Garlic) while cooking your food to keep your immune system healthy.

Take 1 tbsp Chyavanprash 10gm every day in the morning. If you are diabetic, then opt for the sugar-free version.

Drink herbal tea twice a day having a combination of Tulsi (Basil), Dalchini (Cinnamon), Kalimirch (Black pepper), Shunthi (Dry Ginger) and Munakka (Raisin). Add jaggery or sugar and fresh lemon juice as per your taste.

Practice steam inhalation with fresh Pudina (Mint) leaves or Ajwain (Caraway seeds) once in a day. Lavang (Clove) powder mixed with natural sugar/honey can be taken 2-3 times a day in case of cough or throat irritation.

These measures are helpful in normal to dry cough, however, it is better to consult a doctor if you still show symptoms. Also, if you develop COVID-19 symptoms, visit the nearest testing centre immediately.
