Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

Anuj has an equal number of two-rupee and five-rupee coins. He has also some one-rupee coins. If the total number of coins is 40 and their value is Rs120.

To find :-

How many five-rupee and two-rupee coins does he have?

Solution :-

Let the number of 2 rupee coins be X

Then the number of 5 rupee coins = X

Let the number of 1 rupee coins be Y

Given that

Total number of coins = 40

=> X+X+Y = 40

=> 2X+Y = 40

=> Y = 40-2X ---------(1)

and

Given that

Total value of all coins = Rs. 120

=> (2×X)+(5×X)+(1×Y) = 120

=> 2X+5X+Y = 120

=> 7X+Y = 120

=> 7X+40-2X = 120

=> 5X+40 = 120

=> 5X = 120-40

=> 5X = 80

=> X = 80/5

=> X = 16

On Substituting the value of X in (1) then

Y = 40-2(16)

=> Y = 40-32

=> Y = 8

Therefore, X = 16 and Y = 8

Answer:-

Number of 2 rupee coins = 16

Number of 5 rupee coins = 16

Number of 1 rupee coins = 8

Check:-

Number of 2 rupee coins = 16

Total value = 2×16 = 32

Number of 5 rupee coins = 16

Total value = 5×16 = 80

Number of 1 rupee coins = 8

Total value = 1×8 = 8

Total coins = 16+16+8 = 40

Total value = 32+80+8 = 120
