there are 2 ways to solve this

1 is that we find the other side of x

we know that the angle sum of a triangle is 180

so 30°+40° + other side of x = 180

70° + other sie of x = 180

other side of x = 110°

and x + other side of x will be 180 too because they are on a straight line

so 110 + x = 180

x= 70°

the other method is easier, just add up the 2 angles except the opposite angle of the exterior angle

that means x = 30°+40°

x= 70°
