Answer:(i)At present, 28.5% of the Indian population lives below the poverty line.
(ii)In the category of poor falls the people whose daily income is less than 33 rupees a day in cities and 27 rupees a day in villages.
(iii)Tribal people, Dalits and labour class including farm workers in villages and casual workers in cities are still very poor and make the poorest class in India.
(iv)60% of the poor still reside in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The reason for these states to be in the category of the poorest state is because 85% of tribal people live there.
(v)most of these regions are either flood-prone or suffer from calamities. These conditions hamper agriculture to a great extent, on which the household income of these people depends.
(vi)International poverty line stands at $ 1.25 per day and in 2010, 32.7% of the total population in India was below this line.
(vii)High population growth rate is one of major reasons of poverty in India. This further leads to high level of illiteracy, poor health care facilities and lack of access to financial resources.
(viii) high population growth affects the per capita income and makes per capita income even lower.But India’s economy is not growing at the same pace. This means shortage of jobs.

(x)unskilled workers are paid very low in spite of hard work they put daily. The problem lies with the unorganized sector as owners do not bother the way their workers live and the amount they earn.

- Infant Mortality: Every year, approximately 1.4 million children die in India before their fifth birthday. Infant mortality is too high in the other parts of the world. The most frequent causes of such deaths are Pneumonia, Malaria, etc.
- Malnutrition: More than 200 million people don't get enough food on a daily basis. 7.8 million infants were found of less weight at the time of their birth as their mothers didn't get sufficient food during pregnancy.
- Lack of Education: According to UNICEF, about 25% of children in India don't get access to education because of poverty. The number is higher when it comes to girls.
- Patriarchy: In India, women have equal rights but in reality, special in lower class, are considered inferior to the other men of the family.
- Child Labor: Although child labor for children under the age of 14 is prohibited by law in India, but according to official reports, 12.5 million children are working as child labor at different places.
- Lack of opportunities: In India, most of the youth is unemployed, which is also a big cause of poverty.
- Less reach to technology: In many areas of India and the world, technology is still not reachable.
- Child Marriages: India is a county where child marriage is prohibited a long ago, but in some party of it, people are still marrying their child girls before the age of 18 years. Bihar and Rajasthan are one of those states in which this ritual is still being followed.
- Housing: Millions of people are homeless in India and the world, which is also a cause of poverty. Without a permanent house, most of them have to stay in different places in a particular time.
- Basic needs: The people living below poverty line, don't get access to their basic needs like fresh water, food, hygiene, etc.
