Examples of protochordates are Balanoglossus, Saccoglossus, Herdmania, Amphioxus, Doliolum, Salpa etc.
Phylum chordata has 4 sub phylums.
They are Hemichordata, Cephalochordata, Urochordata and Vertebrata.
First three are protochordates.

Protochordates is an informal name given to the organisms which are invertebrates but are closely related to vertebrates.

This group contains phylum Hemichordata and the subphyla Urochordata and Cephalochordata.

Their basic features include presence of a notochord, gill slits, central nervous system which is present dorsally, nerve chord and post anal tail.

Examples of protochotdata are Balanglossus, Saccoglossus, Herdmania, Amphioxus and Doliolum.
