The steps taken by the government are as follows:

1. The right to education act ensures free and compulsory education upto 14 years of age.

2. Mid day meal is provided to the children so that they have the incentive to attend school.

3. Cost of uniform and books is borne by the government.

4. Adult education has been taken up to eradicate illiteracy in adults.

5. Several government schemes have been taken up to ensure the same.
