There is a lot of difference

1) Ac motor was invented by the great scientist Nikola Tesla in 1887 whereas DC was discovered by William sturgeon.

2) As name suggests, AC motor works on alternating current but DC works on direct current

3) An AC motor needs an external capacitor so that current is filtered but DC can run without filtration of current.

As well similarities are there

1) Both works on principle of induction.

2) Converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
