1)Oscillatoria,a genus of blue green algae common in freshwater environment, including hot springs.

2)This unbranced filamentous alga, occurring singly or in tangled mats, derives it's name from slow,rhythemic oscillating motion.

3) which is thought to result from a secretion of mucilage that pushes the filament away from the direction of excretion.

4)Reproduction is by fragmentation in which dead concave shell (Separation disks) separate sections of the filament ( hormogenia).

5)When present, the mucilage sheath is very thin.
