Soil contamination or soil pollution as part of land degradation is caused by the presence of xenobiotic (human-made) chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment. It is typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals, or improper disposal of waste.

The sources of soil pollution are:
• fertilisers- Excessive use of fertilisers causes soil pollution.
•Plastic products - Mixing of plastic with soil causes pollution because plastic does not decomposes into the soil hence resulting in its pollution.
• Industrial waste - Disposal of industrial wastes from origins such as pulp and paper mills, chemicals fertilisers, oil refinaries, etc. also contaminate soil.
•Nuclear wastes- Dumping of nuclear waste into soil also contaminate it.

Hope it helps!
