Answer:

“I have been asked to sit outside of a room, away from people and have food because I am from a lower caste”

I was studying my 4th standard and I was preparing for an entrance exam to get into one of the best government schools of Andhra Pradesh.

My dad put me in a coaching centre, which was managed by an upper caste teacher and his relatives. I used to stay in their hostel as my place was far from there.

The first day when I went to have food, they told me that I should not come into the area where they serve food. I should give my plate to others and they would get food for me.

I was not allowed to sit along with other students of my class and have food, I have to sit away from all others alone and have.

This discrimination has been the biggest insult that I have faced and it continued for 6 months. I was only a 9 year old kid at that time.

Was that my mistake to be born in a lower caste?

A teacher who has to teach students that every human being is equal and we have to treat them equally has taught them how to descriminate someone based on their caste.

This made me to feel very sad, worse and helpless at the same time but I had to bare that all because there was no good school near my hometown.

I took this discrimination as a challenge, took my studies seriously and now working as an engineer in private sector.

I could have easily got into government job by utilising my reservation category but I don’t want to.

I don’t want a job based on my caste and reservation, I want a job based on my talent.

Caste system and discrimination sucks
