answer :-

distance covered in 15 minutes = 5 km /hr × 15 / 60 hr = 1.25 km

extra distance along river covered = √(1.25) ^2 - (1) ^2

= 0.75 km

velocity of the river =

0.75 / ( 15 / 60 )hr

= 0.75 × 4 / 1

= 3 km / hr

option ( b)

-------------;)-----------------;)----------------------------------

GIVEN :-

➡ Width of the river = 1 km

➡ Time = 15 minutes ( 1/4 ) hour ; distance : 1.25km

➡ Speed of the boat in still water = 5km/hr

➡ TO FIND - velocity of the river ?

✡ Let the velocity of the river is x km/hr

TO UNDERSTAND THIS MORE CLEARLY LET US DRAW THE DIAGRAM . ( see the diagram in the refer attachment )

According to the mentioned diagram ; We are applying the Pythagoras Theorem

Pythagoras Theorem :- ( Hypotenuse )² = ( base )² + ( perpendicular )²

Here , (AB)2 + (BC)2 = (AC)²

( 1 )² + (BC)² = ( 1.25 )²

BC = 0.75km

➡ Velocity = 0.75 ÷ ( 1/4 ) = 3km/hr

= 3 km/hr

✨✨ OPTION ( B ) 3 Km / hr IS THE CORRECT ANSWER.
