This system is called binomial nomenclature .

Scientific names are considered better than their common names . This is because there are many common names for one thing . For example , Onion is known as " piyaz " in Urdu . But in some places it also known kanda , basal etc . This caused a great confusion . Everything had their name according to the places . So scientific names were introduced in order to clear the confusion .

Another answer

These names are considered better than common names because they are universal and do not change with respect to place .

This system is called "binomial nomenclature." These names are important because they allow people throughout the world to communicate unambiguously about animal species. These names are considered better than common names because they are universal and do not change with respect to place.
