Yes the flow of current through it .

DC means direct current .

DC have one direction either in clockwise or anticlockwise .

eg :- Charger , TV's , computers etc .

AC means alternate current .

AC have 2 directions

click wise and anti clock wise .

eg :- grinder , fans etc .

ANSWER:-

Because in nineteenth century when AC system started to grow rapidly, we lacked powers elctronics technology and also did not have strong focus on renewable energy and energy storage system. Fossil Fuels are usedto generate ac and transformers proved to be the easiest way to up or down for efficient generation and distribution.
