The two characteristics of metals are :

Explanation:

  1. Metals are malleable - Malleability is the property in which metal can be beaten (or) hammered into thin sheets. This means all metals have this property and can be beaten into thin sheets without breaking. Example:- Silver is the most malleable metal. Exception:- mercury.
  2. Metals are Ductile - Ductility is the property in which metals can be drawn into thin wires. All metals can be drawn into thin wires. The most ductile metal is Gold and silver. Aluminium and Copper are also very ductile. Exception:- mercury.

Other properties of metals are:- they are lustrous, sonorous, solid at room temperature, good conductors, have high melting and boiling point, malleable and ductile.
