The value of X = 42 and the value of Y = 16

Solution:

The two numbers taken in this questions can be considered as X and Y,

so, the question says that

X + Y = 42 and the difference between this two numbers that is X and Y is 16. Therefore, if written as

\begin{array}{l}{X+Y=42} \\ {X-Y=16}\end{array}

Subtracting the value Y we get 2X = 58, X = 26 and putting the value of X = 26

We get the value of Y as

26+Y=42;

Y=42-26=16

Hence, the value of X = 42 and the value of Y = 16.
