4 a) When a bus or a train starts suddenly, the passengers sitting inside tend to fall backwards. This is so because the lower part of his body starts moving with the bus or train but the upper part tries to remain at rest due to inertia of rest.

Answer: When the bullet strikes the glass pane, the part of the glass pane which comes in contact with the bullet immediately shares the large velocity of bullet and makes a hole, while the remaining part of the glass remains at rest and is therefore not smashed due to inertia of rest

c)An athlete runs a certain distance to gain momentum before taking a long jump. This is because velocity acquired by running is added to the velocity of the athlete at the time of jump. This jump is due to inertia of motion. Hence he can jump over a longer distance.

3) 1) It is easy to push or pull the cycle than the truck, because mass of the truck is much greater than the mass of the cycle, hence inertia is more for truck than cycle. (2) It is easy to carry cotton than iron, because inertia of cotton is less than the inertia of iron
