Given f(x) = 4x^3 + ax^2 - 2x + 7, g(x) = 2x^3 + x^2 + x - a.
We know that if f(x) and g(x) is divided by (x - 3) the remainders are f(3) and g(3).
Now,
f(3) = g(3)
4(3)^3 + a(3)^2 - 2(3) + 7 = 2(3)^3 + (3)^2 + 3 - a
108 + 9a - 6 + 7 = 54 + 9 + 3 - a
109 + 9a = 66 - a
9a = -a-43
10a = -43
a = -43/10.
Therefore the value of a = -43/10.
Hope this helps!
